ARI Provides CART for BC Teachers’ Federation AGM!

ARI was excited to provide On-Site CART for BC Teachers’ Federation’s Annual General Meeting, held March 17-20, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.

The four-day long meeting was to enable elected delegates from throughout British Columbia to set policy and future directions for BCTF.  The organization’s 102nd AGM, it was attended by over 700 teachers from across the province, and was slated as the largest gathering of BCTF members, following the implementation of the teachers’ restored collective agreement language and the change in the provincial government.

The keynote speaker for the event was Tanya Talaga, an award-winning investigative reporter for the Toronto Star and author of Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death and Hard Truths in a Northern City.  Tanya spoke about her investigation and reporting on the deaths of seven Indigenous teenagers in Thunder Bay, the legacy of residential schools, and the need for justice reform.

Other highlights of the event included an address by Premier John Horgan and BCTF President, Glen Hansman, offered his report on the school year ahead, including a new round of collective bargaining. Elections for the BCTF Executive Committee were also held.

West Coast LEAF 2017 Equality Breakfast

Accurate Realtime Inc was honoured to provide CART captioning for West Coast LEAF’s 2017 Equality Breakfast, held at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver on March 10, 2017 in celebration of International Women’s Day.

A Fun Event in Support of Women’s Equality!

An annual event sponsored by many local businesses and organizations, this was the 30th year West Coast LEAF had held the event, with friends, supporters and allies of the group coming together to raise much-needed funds to support their work for women’s equality. On this particular day, the group also commemorated 106 years of International Women’s Day.

Emcee for the event was Gloria Macarenko, host of “Our Vancouver”, a current affairs television show.

West Coast LEAF was honoured to have Dr. Cindy Blackstock as the keynote speaker for the breakfast. Dr. Blackstock is the Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada and is a professor at McGill University’s School of Social Work. Learn more about Dr. Blackstock’s amazing work here.

The event also featured a silent auction.

Who is West Coast LEAF?

Founded in 1985, West Coast LEAF envisions a society in which women are full participants in all social, economic, and political activities. The organization’s work is aimed at substantive equality, recognizing and celebrating our differences. Rather than treating everyone the same, substantive equality ensures that historically disadvantaged people can actively participate in society and access justice. They strive to ensure that the law upholds the equality principles in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which advances the rights of all marginalized groups. To learn more about the group and how you can get involved, please check out their website.
